QCE subject revision

QCE General Mathematics revision from real past papers

The General Mathematics external exam rewards fluency across a wide syllabus: statistics one minute, annuities or networks the next. Real QCAA past papers are broken down question by question and put into a daily revision loop.

No card required, no auto-charge.

What's in the QCE General Mathematics external exam

  • The external examination contributes 50% of your final subject result.
  • Two papers, sat in the end-of-year external assessment block.
  • Paper 1 includes multiple choice and short response; Paper 2 is short response.
  • Questions span simple familiar through to complex unfamiliar — the top marks live in applying methods to contexts you haven't rehearsed.

The authoritative source on exam structure is always the current QCAA syllabus and assessment specifications — check them for the fine print, and treat this page as a practical summary.

Practise the real questions, one at a time

Queensland publishes its external assessment papers under a Creative Commons (CC BY 4.0) licence, which lets us do something PDFs can't: break real QCAA General Mathematics exam questions down individually, map each to the syllabus subject matter, and put them into a practice loop with examiner-style solutions. You attempt before anything is revealed, self-mark against the marking points, and tag why any marks were lost so the next session targets it.

Maths revision lives or dies on working, not recognition. Multi-mark solutions unfold step by step so you say the next move before seeing it, you can photograph handwritten working from paper via a QR code, and the gap log tags why marks were lost — didn't know it, misread, wrong working, careless slip — so the loop drills what actually costs you.

A daily loop, scheduled by memory science

Each day the app composes one finishable session: quick recall first, then the reviews your memory is about to drop (scheduled by FSRS spaced repetition), then past-exam questions on your weakest knowledge points. As your exam date approaches, review gaps compress so nothing is scheduled past exam day. The technique itself is free — our evidence-based revision guide explains it with citations.

Sit full papers under exam conditions

Knowing the content and performing in the exam are different skills. Sit full past papers as one piece with reading time, writing time and deferred marking, or build your own practice paper from mapped questions by topic. The timed sits guide shows how a sit runs.

Know where you stand

Every knowledge point is colour-coded by mastery on the subject heatmap, and your exam-readiness forecast gives a likely-score range built from coverage, accuracy and recency. It's a compass, not a promise: it guides where to focus, it doesn't guarantee a grade.

Topics covered

  • Bivariate data analysis
  • Time series analysis
  • Growth and decay in sequences
  • Earth geometry and time zones
  • Loans, investments and annuities
  • Graphs and networks
  • Networks and decision mathematics, including critical path analysis

Coverage is mapped to the QCAA syllabus at subject-matter level, and the heatmap shows exactly which points you've practised.

Common questions

Which General Mathematics papers are included?

Questions are drawn from official QCAA General Mathematics external assessment papers, broken down question by question and mapped to the syllabus subject matter. Inside the app you can also regroup them and sit a paper as one timed piece.

Can I use it for internal assessments too?

The practice material is built around the external examination. The underlying skills transfer to problem-solving and modelling tasks, but internals follow your school's instruments — your teacher is the authority there.
